World Info: History

History
Originally Kainosis was a part of the Martellon Empire, which ruled the entire continent. Myrikon acted as the regional capital of the area, and was close with Martellon’s capital because Kainosis provided the grain for the entire empire. However, when the empire fell due to a spirit rebellion, the entire country of Kainosis was thrown into chaos and disjointed. Cities mostly looked after themselves and remoter locations were either forced to fend off for themselves or died off - the climate change that the empire’s fall brought also caused a great population death, as the expanded desert impacted farming. The culture that the empire brought with it was retained in libraries in large cities and the libraries of the empire’s former elite, but the common culture largely ignored it. Magic became something people relied on in houses and to survive, and was considered a trait like having a certain eye colour.

Cities slowly but surely got themselves together, developing massive irrigation systems and extending them into the countryside away from the Bados River. Magic was used in developing these systems via alchemists, showing magic’s potential for building and construction. Cities having a steady food supply lead to more people having more time to pursue the cultural legacy of the Martellon Empire, and the resurgence of magic and culture began. Cities grew into city states.

These city states began to conflict with each other over farming territory, and regional skirmishes began to rise. Magi, in rediscovering the Martellon Empire, also rediscovered summoning magic and soon the fighting of foot soldiers was coupled with using spirits to do the heavy lifting. Magi who controlled these spirits were quickly ushered into military positions, and soon, government. Non-magic users often took umbrage with this, and city-state politics were frequently boiled down to mage vs non mage fights in addition to city-state conflicts.

A growing need to put the regional fighting down, lest everyone starve to death, encouraged the city states to come together and find some form of common ground. Eventually it was suggested that a centralized government of representatives be formed from each city state in order to create borders, evenly distribute resources, and create a cohesive way to keep things under control. It was agreed, and soon the bare bones of Kainosis’s government were formed.

Six regions were outlined in Kainosis, each with it’s own regional capital to administer the area. Myrikon was agreed to be the capital. Regional history outlined the specialization of each area such as farming or raising livestock, and at present the more or less get on. See the premise for recent history.
